How do I prep for my photoshoot?

How to Prep for Your Photoshoot: A Stress-Free Guide

Booking a photoshoot is more than just picking a date — it’s about creating an experience that feels relaxed, joyful, and true to you. Whether you’re celebrating a milestone, updating family portraits, or simply treating yourself to a beautiful afternoon in front of the camera, a little preparation goes a long way.

Here are my top tips to make sure you feel confident and ready before the big day:

1. Choose Outfits with Care (But Don’t Stress!)

Clothing sets the tone for your portraits. Pick outfits that feel comfortable and reflect your personality.
✨ Keep colors soft and coordinated — they should complement one another without looking too “matchy.”
✨ Avoid loud logos and neon colors that distract from faces.
✨ Layers, textures, and accessories photograph beautifully.

(Pro tip: I have a client wardrobe available, and I’m always happy to help with styling ideas before your session.)

2. Plan Ahead for the Little Things

The tiny details can make the biggest difference.
✨ Make sure everyone has eaten before the session (full tummies = happy smiles).
✨ Bring water, snacks, and a comfort item if you’re including little ones.
✨ If pets are joining, pack a leash, treats, and maybe their favorite toy.

3. Rest, Relax, and Hydrate

This one is simple but often overlooked. A good night’s sleep and plenty of water the day before will help you look and feel your best.

4. Trust the Process

You don’t need to know how to pose or “perform.” That’s my job. I’ll guide you with prompts, games, and gentle direction so your images feel natural and joyful. My goal is always for the session to feel fun, not stiff.

5. Bring Your Personality

Props and personal touches add meaning to your session. A favorite book, a child’s toy, a blanket you love, or even just your family’s playful energy — these details make your portraits uniquely yours.

6. Arrive With an Open Mind

The best photos often happen in between the “planned” moments — the giggles, the messy hair, the quick snuggles. Come ready to laugh, connect, and just be yourselves. That’s where the magic happens.

Final Thought

Prepping for your photoshoot doesn’t have to be overwhelming. With a little planning (and my guidance along the way), your session will feel like a relaxed, beautiful experience from start to finish.

If you’re ready to start planning your session, I’d love to hear your vision:
